Our clinic is designed to help you feel at ease. The reception area is quite expansive so we have been able to provide generous spacing for the seating. Our aim is to make you feel as comfortable as possible while also keeping waiting times low.
Yes, a referral enables you to claim a Medicare rebate after your consultation. We accept referrals from your Optometrist, General Practitioner (valid for 1 year) or Specialist (valid for 3 months).
Please bring your referral and any records or results you have that are relevant to your medical history or eye problem. You will also need a list of your current medications, any eye drops you are using and your distance glasses. Additionally, you’ll need your Medicare card, DVA card and/or Pension card.
All patients are screened for visual acuity, intraocular pressure and refractive error, and are examined on a slit lamp. Depending on your problem, you may need further testing, including retinal scans, retinal photography, corneal imaging or visual field testing. If you require treatment, such as intravitreal injection or laser therapy, we will undertake these after testing.
Please contact our rooms to find out the current schedule of fees, as these vary annually. In addition to your consultation, fees may apply for any diagnostic testing required to investigate your presenting problem, as well as for any treatments you may require.
For most problems, we will need to dilate your eyes with drops to properly look inside the pupil and examine the whole eye, and to take accurate scans and photos. You should expect your vision to be slightly blurry and sensitive to light for two to four hours afterwards. We recommend bringing sunglasses to help with glare after your appointment, and to have a family member or friend to assist you in getting home.
Depending on your problem, and due to dilation, assessment and testing, your appointment time may vary. We recommend allowing at least 45 minutes for your appointment. Please allow up to 1.5 hours for an initial consultation. We endeavour to see all patients at their scheduled appointment time.
The building has wheelchair access via an entrance ramp and all our treatment rooms are accessible by wheelchair. Please call our receptionist if you require assistance to the door.
While an eye injection may seem daunting, we aim to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. We instill topical and local anaesthetics to ensure you feel no pain during the procedure. After the injection, you may feel some grittiness or irritation, however most patients have no discomfort. In rare cases, a bruise may form in the eye which usually resolves over a few days.
Cataract surgery is a quick day-only procedure performed by Dr Hunt at Kingsway Day Surgery. It is performed under local anaesthetic and sedation, with the option for general anaesthetic where appropriate. A protective eye shield is worn overnight after the surgery, which is removed when you visit the clinic the next day for a post-operative consultation. The majority of patients experience no pain, discomfort or irritation during or after the surgery, while some patients may feel some pain or discomfort overnight. Post-operative eye drops are prescribed for 4 weeks to prevent infection, and reduce pain and inflammation.
